Ventrilo Update

Hey MSG ( and everyone else)

I see there is an update for Ventrilo, at least I am getting a notice that there is one. I haven't seen that happen before. 

MSG do you know if this is legit or could it be some malware?

As of now I have just kept clicking no to the update, can I click yes the next time I fire up Vent?

To all who use Ventrilo (and to answer your question Elderitch):


YES - If you are asked to update, you can click Yes. It will open up your browser and take you to the Ventrilo download page. You'll need to download the CLIENT for your O/S and install it. Unless the installer says otherwise, you should not need to uninstall your current version first.

HOWEVER - follow any instructions from the installer. If it says you need to uninstall your current version first, then you'll need to do so. If it says that you do not need to uninstall your current version first, or if it says nothing at all about your current version, then it'll most likely just install over your current version and there would be no need to uninstall first.

I haven't done this yet myself, but if people want to wait until I do the upgrade - then I can let you know for sure either way.

It looks like it is a separate program called Ventrilo pro. And is quite different in layout.
But it looks like there is an issue it shows that server is available and it shows the IP address and the Port but when i go to connect a msg. window pops up with this : Incompatible version. Server is running version 3.0.6

So for now I would suggest to others yes you can install the new Ventrilo Pro program if you like definitely take the time to go through the 6 step orientation.  Also when asked to copy the info from older running program choose yes it simply copies everything you had set up in other version.

For now I am just using the old Vent program and clicking no to update. Everything still works fine. 

I am assuming that MSG needs to update also the server version ?  Or something I am not sure if that then make the older version of Vent program operable though.

I don't control the server as far as its updates go. I'll have to contact Ventrilo support when I get back Friday and see what's going on and what we should do.

In the interim, I'd suggest that everyone continue to use the current version of Ventrilo that you have and answer NO when asked to update. Once I find out what may need to be done, I'll post back in this thread.

actually the New version of Ventrilo installed and the older version remains on my computer.

ATTENTION EVERYONE WHO USES VENTRILO!

If you are asked to upgrade Ventrilo, please do so! HOWEVER, keep your current version as well ... for now. I've spoken to Ventrilo Support, and once I upgrade the server, you will only be able to connect if you have upgraded your client to VentriloPro (v4).

Therefore, I will wait until everyone has the new client before upgrading the server.

Question that might need to be asked of Ventrilo Support. When you upgrade the server to Pro, will apps like Ventastic still work?

MSG on another note does it cost anything to switch to the pro? Will Ventrilo still support the non Pro version moving forward?

I was thinking the Vent Pro is so that Ventrilo can compete with other chats like Discord. Your thoughts?

It seems that VentriloPro is not yet compatible with mobile. Also, as you can see, all Ventrilo (v3) servers (which is what we're currently on) will need to be converted to VentriloPro.

Mobile App users may want to seriously consider getting some sort of desktop / laptop device. Considering that there may not be a mobile app version for Ventrilo Pro (v4), anyone without such a device will not be able to log onto Vent Pro when it's pushed live. As you can see from my conversation with support, there currently is no date for the forced push. HOWEVER, if you plan on continuing to game with us, you'll need a device (non-mobile) to be able to get onto Vent.

I'll look into other options as well - possibly Discord - that we may switch to for game nights.

In the interim, I NEED you to post ONLY if you only have a mobile device to log onto Vent with. Those who already have a desktop / laptop need NOT reply.

Please keep in mind that I am expecting a reply from both of you as to whether or not you've got a desktop / laptop where you can upgrade to Ventrilo Pro.

Also keep in mind that this will make or break your ability to join in MRPG games once the server is forced to Ventrilo Pro. I have no say whatsover when that happens. As such, you will want to do what you can to be prepared ahead of time. If you look at my post above, you'll see that there are currently no plans for a Ventrilo App for Ventrilo Pro.

I actually just recently ordered a laptop for myself that I would be able to run the new Ventrillo 4 on which should hopefully be here sometime in the next two weeks. It shouldn't take me any time at all hopefully to get it up and running once I get it situated.
